Book 3 Reflection

I have read 2 books in the time for reading book 3. But the book that I want to zoom in on is Pendragon: The Rivers of Zadaa. This is the 8th book in the series. This book has one of the best plots that I have ever seen. It is about Bobby Pendragon a 15 year old kid who just randomly gets called to be a traveler. When he does this his uncle explains to him what being a traveler is about which is the plot for most of the stories. Uncle Press tells him “Bobby I know this isn’t making any sense right now but juts let me explain. The travelers are a group of people that have to well, save the whole universe or Halla. Halla is everything bobby and if you let that man on the railroad who is really a killer demon take it, Things would not go well for earth and the universe. I am going to distract Saint Dane you need to go find a door with a star on it you will know it’s the right one when your ring starts to glow. I need you to open the door and yell Denduron then the flume will take you.”  So the plot is Bobby trying to save everything that is life from Saint Dane.

One of the main Characters in the book is Bobby Pendragon. He is the lead traveler and the bravest person in the book. “In one instant I had to decide whether it was worth it to jump and save Bokka or to let him be in orison with the guards. I didn’t sign up for this well hobey ho lets go”. That instant Bobby jumps down from a 50 ft. cliff into the water and hijacks the boat and saves Bokka life while risking his. Another Character that is in the book is Spader he is the traveler from that territory in the book and he is kind of hot tempered. “I swear Bobby the next time I see Saint Dane I am going to break every bone in his body.” As you can see Spader kind of goes off because Saint Dane had just killed his father but he has a reason it just shows how much of a hot head that he is. This novel shows that how everything is connected in life and how it all revolves around second earth. When the travelers lose a territory it affects earth and when they win it gets improved on.

The first territory that Bobby loses is Veelox and the whole story is in the quote. “Greetings Pendragon I am the traveler from the territory Veelox. You have been called here because of a pressing matter that needs to be resolved. There is a virtual reality world called Life light that lets you have whatever the mind pleases at that time. It’s an amazing program but the people are only starting to stay in life light and causing society to cripple. We need to shut it down but we need to get some other things out of the way. Before we can ever get close to shutting it down.”  Then Bobby eventually loses that territory and when he comes back on second earth. He sees on a billboard virtual reality life to be coming in 15 years.  So that really shows how everything is connected to Second Earth. One of the best parts of the story is how bobby writes back to his acolyte or traveler helper back his experiences.

Since Bobby just can’t tell people what happened he has to write back in journals. It’s in first person so it’s really neat how he describes all the situations that happen to him while writing. It should make the acolytes feel like they are actually with him to see if they can help in any way “The flume was spectacular the navy blue sky around me with so many stars in the sky and the walls were rocky like a crumbled piece of paper while I flew through on a green carpet trying to take in all of this” As a reader it makes you feel like you can picture what’s happening to him and like you are standing side by side. That was a really cool writing style for me and hopefully a lot of other readers. This book deserves 4 out of 5 stars. Only 4 because the writing style was amazing the characters really don’t know anything about them in the book but going through the traveler experience makes them take a look at themselves.

Pendragon

The main character in my book is Bobby Pendragon in the book The Rivers of Zadaa. I think that he is both a villain and a hero in the books over the series. In the beginning of the series like books 1 through 6 Bobby is like a golden child he always follows the rules of the game. He never took something from one territory and brought it over to another to help him win the battle against Saint Dane. That could change the whole history of a territory. That could also alter the flume which is the way that they travel to territories. Or in the worst case it could kill a traveler like in book 6 on the territory Eelong. He had won most of the territories that way until Saint Dane had told him something that could change the whole game. He told Bobby that maybe the way of crippling a territory and leaving it that way was the way it was supposed to be. This is when Bobby becomes sort of a villain in the book but he is still a hero trying to save halla which is everything in existence to put it in simple terms.

After that Bobby says why do the travelers have to play by the rules and Saint Dane gets to do whatever he wants he thinks it’s unfair. I mean Bobby has lost many friends and family and hos regular life to be a traveler. So he doesn’t want to get beaten in his whole quest for Halla. So then Bobby starts to become a villain in the book by mixing all these devices that shouldn’t be on a territory and he suffers the consequences. The flume starts to fall apart two of the travelers get stuck on Eelong. Mass destruction starts to happen but what I think is happening and this may sound weird if you haven’t read the books. I think since Bobby is the lead traveler he is the Spirit of halla and that Saint Dane is using the territories to break Bobby down one by one until he is crippled and Halla is his. Saint Dane is going to try to use the Convergence the major turning point to deliver the final blow to bobby and take all of Halla. The n Bobby isn’t going to let that happen because obviously there are two more books in the series then since Bobby has noticed Saint Dane is trying to kill him he is going to use the same tactics on Saint Dane to make him fail at his own plan and take halla once and for all.

But as long as Bobby is going to be mixing territories. He is going to loosen the boundaries between the territories and cripple everything by himself. The phrase you either die a hero or live long enough and become a villain is going to play a key part in how this story ends and why Bobby was doing this.

Nonfiction All Truth?

I think that a nonfiction book should really be all truth and there are a lot of reasons why. If a person looks through the library and sees a book and it is classified as Non-Fiction. That person is going to believe that the book has all truth. You are going to be misleading someone they are going to read a book and see that the earth is a square and then go into astronomy class or anywhere and look like an idiot. Not on that much of scale but yeah you get the point. That’s the reason Wikipedia is such a terrible site because someone can just post random information on something and someone will believe that and go on with faulty information for some time. So I believe that a book should be all truth to be considered Non Fiction

I don’t think that it was okay for Frey to bend his story and lie to all of the people who have read his story. As you can see Oprah wasn’t very happy that he had lied in his book. She said that you would get inspired from Frey’s story and what if someone did. Then they realize that most of the book is just some fake and then you just lose all motivation like that. But you can’t bend the truth in a Non Fiction. You know why they call in non-fiction. Because it’s not fiction with the made up stories because Nonfiction is real so it’s supposed to have all facts or truths in a book.

Also I agree with David Shields that there need to be lines between genres. If there isn’t you don’t really know what you like to read you pick up a book and you don’t even know what genre it is. You don’t know if its Fantasy or Nonfiction. You can’t even specify what kind of book you like to read someone would say what’s your favorite book and you would just answer the one with paper. There is no specify in books and that’s what you need to make a book a book.

Let me off at the top!

I have been reading this book called let me off at the top and its narrated by the character Ron Burgundy from the movie Anchorman. This book is fantastic and there are a lot of reasons to read it. In the beggining Ron talks about his childhood and all of the crazy and stupid things that he does throught it. The book goes through all of his thoughts which are not completely sane but you get over it. Like in teh book he talks about how he has hunted jackalopes with Peter Lawford and what crazy things gappen during that trip. He describes all these knock-out fights that he has seen in been in throught his whole life. Whats more funny about it is the way the fight gets started radther than the fight. The book is hillarious even on the front cover Ron Burgandy comments 'I worte a hell of a book' and you should read it to find out why.

Readicide

No I think readicide isn’t a problem in school and there are many reasons why. Say you get assigned the Hunger Games to read for class. Then let’s say the rest of the day you get a lot or just some homework you are not really going to want to read it because you have homework already and no one likes having to read after homework. Now let’s say it’s the weekend and you happen to see the book lying around somewhere and you decide to read it. Since you have time and nothing to do and you want to read it you are going to like that book more and read it a lot than if it’s assigned by school. I think that we should not add more genre fiction to the school I think that if we do that we will just see those books as part of the nuisance to read for homework and won’t like that genre or books in general. There are some classes in school that let you choose your book. Like Best sellers and that’s an okay class to read for since you get to choose and it not being assigned by a teacher.

I am reading a book called Let Me off at The Top! It’s narrated by Ron Burgundy and I got to choose it so it is more of my style so I will read that book more.  What an English class should look like in the 21st century it should look like what it looks like now. You need to read those boring books so you get the line between boring school books and what you really want to read. If you don’t have that line then it all becomes one big mess of books you will never want to read. If my favorite book was assigned in school and I had never read it I wouldn’t have because it was assigned in school and it already seems boring. That’s why schools need to make a class like bestsellers to make a class that student s get to choose their book so they want to read and it is for school. But you need to read boring books at school to so you get the line between want to read and I want to burn this book it’s a fine line trust me on that.
